Think about it for a second. How many times do you find yourself in a situation where your brain goes into overtime and you find yourself overthinking the situation. When it comes to your swimming it starts at practice and your ability to have fun and laugh during your training sessions. Have you ever hear the term practice swimmer versus the meet swimmer? The practice swimmer is that person who is able to churning out fast repeats one after another, but then race day arrives and everything becomes a struggle. The meet swimmer for some reason always shows up and although the result may not be a best time, they are always there to race.
The practice swimmer is the one who steps onto the blocks with a cluttered brain. They may be worrying about one or all of the following, goggles fall off, bad start, miss a turn, out to fast, unable to finish and then their is the BIG THREE a bad swim, bad time, losing the race. This swimmer has worked themselves into such a frenzy and they are so nervous and tight that no matter how hard they try the race is probably going to end badly. Even if you have a bad swim your world has not ended let not go and don't carry it with you. Instead be excited that you have things to focus on and improve the next time out. It is time to stop overthinking and turn the brain off. It may be a clique but trust the process and just swim.
Instead of being the next Michael Phelps or Katie Ledecky BE THE NEXT YOU.
